Greetings lovely readers!
Just the other day, I was thinking over the idea that, no matter what spot on the globe you call home, certain months of the year get our minds and spirits moving to a different beat. Months that include holidays, holy days, birthdays and special milestone occasions always seem a tad more noteworthy to us. Even with the seasons being reversed in the Northern and Southern hemispheres, the concept remains the same: the months of the year surely urge us to wait for them with varying degrees of expectation.
Here in the United States, August is a strange kind of month. Though it contains no major holidays, the beginning of August reminds everyone that the lush, golden days of summer are quickly coming to an end, signaling a mad rush to fit in those last-minute family vacations, splashy pool parties and peaceful picnic plans. For kids of all ages, and the valiant folks who take on the mantle of educating them, the
first days of August are also a not so gentle reminder that a new school year is right around the corner.
During the years I spent teaching Jr. High, the coming of August seemed to turn up the volume on my creativity as I dived into new lesson plans, classroom decor, and the logistics of anticipated field trips. Despite being away from the classroom for over six years, this year, August has that same type of energy as I plot and plan my
newest urban fantasy series, The Morrigan Tales. Set in the same Fae Universe,
